The Manhattan Bridge Arch and Colonnade, located at the Manhattan entrance to the bridge, was built between 1910, the year after the opening of the brudge, and 1915, and was designed by Carrere & Hastings as a triumphal arch with flanking curved colonnades. The decoration includes pylons which were sculpted by Carl A. Heber and a frieze called "Buffalo Hunt" by Charles Rumsey. The arch and colonnade were repaired and restored in 2000. Manhattan Bridge

New York, United States of America

The Manhattan Bridge stretches across the East River, positioned just east of the famous Brooklyn Bridge. It offers a unique experience for pedestrians and cyclists, with entrance conveniently signposted from Jay Street, a short distance north of Tillary Street. While the bridge is a popular route, those who traverse it should be prepared for the rumble of subway trains passing by.

Unique Views and Sounds

Walking or cycling across the Manhattan Bridge offers a distinct experience. Unlike the Brooklyn Bridge, the view is partially obstructed by a mesh, which limits the sightlines to the north, so don't expect the sweeping Midtown skyline vistas. However, the bridge compensates with remarkable views of its iconic neighbor, the Brooklyn Bridge.

Sharing the Path

As of November 2021, ongoing construction on the Manhattan Bridge has narrowed the shared path for pedestrians and cyclists in certain areas. Despite this, access remains open, allowing visitors to enjoy the journey across. Though the path might feel a bit cramped, the opportunity to witness the bustling life of New York from this vantage point is unparalleled.
