Simplified and restored after war damage, the Märchenbrunnen was reopened in 1951 with rougher reproductions of the fountain figures by Ignatius Taschner (1871–1913). The figures stood for five decades and were loved by children just as much as the Taschner originals before them and the faithful reproductions afterward.

Märchenbrunnen

Berlin, Germany

In 1893, Berlin’s city authorities approved an artistic gateway project for the green expanse of Volkspark Friedrichshain. As part of this plan, a special fountain dedicated to fairy tales was commissioned for the park.

The creation of the fairy-tale fountain

The fountain, known as the Märchenbrunnen, was later designed by architect Ludwig Hoffmann. His vision brought together playful figures and sculptural details inspired by well-known stories, turning the site into a poetic landmark within the park. The project linked art and public space, giving Berlin a place where literature, imagination, and urban design meet.
