Wall Street, located in the Financial District of New York City, is famously known as the pulse of American finance. It symbolizes the nation's big business, stock trading, and the entire financial industry. However, most financial firms in New York are now situated in nearby modern offices, with some even relocating to places like Jersey City.

A Street Steeped in History

This narrow street stretches from Broadway, sloping gently down towards the East River. Its name traces back to 1652 when the Dutch settlers built a wall to protect their growing community from Manhattan's indigenous people. By 1699, the British had demolished this wall, but the street retained its historical name.

The Birthplace of the New York Stock Exchange

By the late 1700s, Wall Street had become a gathering place for traders and speculators. They met beneath a buttonwood tree to conduct informal trading sessions. This practice laid the groundwork for what would eventually become the New York Stock Exchange, officially established in 1817.
